Stone Occupation Bridge Kit (BK34)

This kit is intended to depict a simple stone bridge as might have been constructed to allow local farmers and land owners to cross the railway, usually because the construction of the railway had divided their land. Such bridges carried private roads or farm tracks and also included bridleways and footpaths. In this kit, the roadway is carried on iron beams which rest on sturdy stone abutment walls. Between the pillars is a simple timber boarded parapet. The bridge opening is 74mm wide by 88mm tall, sufficient for most 7mm scale narrow gauge operation. Alternatively, the kit could be used as an over bridge, crossing a farm road below. The width of the upper deck is 95mm, sufficient for a standard gauge single track line, perhaps a light railway or rural Victorian branch line.
The principal parts include a pair of bridge facings with side pillars, a pair of abutment walls, four wing walls and four short end pillars. Separate castings are provided for the inside detail of the pillars and parapet, together with capping stones for the pillars and wing walls. Notes to assist with construction are included with this kit.
The photographs show a selection of the main parts together with a built up display model to illustrate what a finished kit could look like.
