Hello again.
Firstly some new product news. Adding to the range of corrugated buildings is a Corrugated Goods Store with integral canopy. Inspired by the station structures of the Selsey Tramway, it represents a style of economical building very typical of the light railway and Narrow gauge scene.

The sample model shown is photographed on a low level timber platform constructed from PPO9 edging pieces (Narrow gauge timber platform face) with the surface deck formed from a single sheet of BC22 (Rough Wood Planking).

Although these platform faces were primarily intended for Narrow gauge layouts, they would be perfectly suitable for many standard gauge branch lines and light railways - the platforms on the Tollesbury branch in Essex being just one example that comes to mind.
Just in case it is of any interest, below is a photo of the first test build model which illustrates part of the development process in producing a new kit.

The later developments saw alterations to the window surround plus the addition of canopy brackets and trusses inside the canopy. Ultimately I decided to omit the valance from the final version of the kit. My thinking being, when considering the cheap construction of the building, a decorative valance represented an extravagant expense that was probably not in keeping with the frugal nature of the lines these buildings were commonly associated with. The photo however illustrates the idea in case it is a modification that could be appropriate in other circumstances.
The first kits for the new Corrugated Goods store should be appearing on the web shop very soon.
Whilst on the subject of the web shop, the other main piece of news is that there is now a section for ready built buildings. These are fully painted layout ready models. This has been partly in response to an increasing number of requests for buildings that are simply 'ready to plonk'. The first models to be listed will be a mixture of ex-display models that are no longer required, test builds and the occasional experimental model built to try out new ideas. As things progress I hope to have a small selection of the current kits available in both kit and ready built form. Some readers with long memories may recall that 422 Modelmaking started out as a custom build service, and while this may represent a return to supplying ready built buildings, unfortunately I'm not able to offer a made to order service. The availability of layout ready buildings will be very much dependent on what time allows, fitting around the existing core business of kit manufacture.
As a little taster, here is a photo of a ready built BK02 Gangers Hut kit (web shop code RB02) - Fully painted, weathered and showing signs of a hard life...

Thanks for dropping by, hope it has been of some interest. If you would like to know more about any of the products featured in the blogs drop me an email or complete the contact form on the website.
