Ffestiniog Railway Type III Quarryman’s coach (rebuilt) (PW41b)

The Type III Quarryman’s coach first appeared on the Ffestiniog railway in the late 1870’s and eventually appeared in three different versions with the primary differences being in the body side planking and lighting arrangements. As first built, the planking on the sides started above the solebar, whereas on rebuilding, the planks covered the solebar giving the impression of a much taller body side. The original type III bodyside is easily identifiable by the iron solebar which would most likely have been painted black set against the brick red colour of the body. The rebuilds showed two variations of plank arrangement, one with uneven width planks keeping with the style of the original design, the other clad with planks of more uniform width. Lighting was simply by candle in the original design, but later rebuilds had oil lamps with the characteristic vented lamp holders positioned centrally on the roof. Kits PW41A, PW41B &PW41C represent these variations.

The kits comprise of cast resin body sides, ends and floor, 3d printed chassis underframes, curly spoked wheels with top hat bearings, brass loop door handles, preformed styrene roof and 3d printed buffers.
