These large 4-wheel wagons were constructed by The North British Railway as a development from the lighter 8 ton Empty Cask Wagon. Similar in body style, they were fitted with sliding doors in place of the cupboard doors of the 8 ton. Rated at 12 tons, these vehicles could work both ways, carrying both full and empty casks making for more efficient working. These vehicles survived well into the LNER period, a few fitted with oil axle boxes lingered on into the early BR era.
This kit comprises cast resin sides, ends and floor, together with dummy resin axle guards and brass t-sections to form the curved roof ties. Sprung buffers are also included. Requires wheels, couplings, paint & transfers to complete. It is suggested that a commercially available compensation unit is used to carry the wheels. ( see August 26 blog post)
The photographs show a test build model in a representation of LNER livery, plus an example of the parts included in the kit.
